Hearing God’s Voice
God’s original intention was always for His people to minister directly to Him as a nation of priests. God longed for and invited all of His people to hear His voice and to serve Him personally. However, in Deuteronomy and 5:23-27 and Deuteronomy 18:15-19, the children of Israel told Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen, but let not God speak to us, or we will die.” In other words, they asked for Moses to be their mediator, thus changing the plan that God had to communicate directly with His people.
Through the New Covenant, Jesus changed all of this back to the Father’s original purpose. Then after the resurrection of Jesus, He released the Holy Spirit to dwell with man on the day of Pentecost. Today, as Christians we can now all hear His voice and speak His words! John 20:21-22, Acts 2:17.
Gifts of the Spirit
Living a supernatural lifestyle includes operating in all nine gifts of the Spirit. In addition, being able to hear God’s voice is enhanced by the “Revelatory Gifts” (1 Cor. 12:7-11). These include prophecy, words of wisdom, words of knowledge and the gift of discerning of spirits. As New Testament believers, we all can and should operate in these areas. However, we need to be biblically and foundationally taught, trained and equipped, and then given the space to practice in a safe environment. In Scripture, it clearly shows us how these gifts operate through agape love and compassion that the Holy Spirit has already given us. These gifts were never meant to be used for ourselves, but were always meant to reveal God’s true nature and heart to the world around us.
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the Spirit, he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. 1 Cor 14: 1-5 (NKJV)
At Roots and Wings Ministries International, our heart is to be able to train and equip pastors, ministers, leaders, churches and ministries to operate in these gifts according to Scripture. As we minister, we want to assure believers that they hear their Father’s voice. For as we know from John 10:27 that “My sheep hear My voice.”
The ministry God has called us to is to show the Body of Christ how to bridge the gap between written Scripture and the practical side of ministry, based on biblical perspectives and principles. We desire for people to function in the authority He has already given us and to reveal and demonstrate His kingdom on earth.
