Wednesday’s Encouraging Word – Cast It Don’t Carry It

Stop Worrying!

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.

Psalm 55:22

Casting Off is Far Better Than Holding On

When anxiety and worry comes knocking at our door, we have to stop it on the doorstep, or it will move in and take up residence. Doesn’t Paul tell us to take every thought captive that does not line up with God’s thoughts or ways? (2 Cor. 10:5, NIV). Why do you think this is so? Well if we don’t take these negative thoughts and feelings captive, then they will finally become part of our belief system, even if they are a complete lie! So, if this is the case, then we can “Cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us” (1 Peter 5:7, AMP).

God Cares More About Your Worries Than You Do

God cares about all the things that attempt to worry us and try to prey upon our thoughts. He cares about them more than we do! Not one nagging, aching, stress-making, unsettling, flustering, heart-wrenching, blood-pressure-raising thought escapes His notice. Why? Because we are His personal concern, He watches over us day and night.

Changing Lists is a Good Thing

Sometimes we don’t even realize we are worrying, or we think it’s natural. Let’s take a look at what qualifies as a worry? Here are some examples: any thought that robs us of our joy or peace, any situation we can’t change, anything we’re not responsible for, anything we cannot control, anything that troubles or torments us, and definitely anything that keeps us awake when we should be sleeping. In summary, any of that disturbing “stuff” needs to be transferred from our worry list to our prayer list.

The Bible says,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

Peace that Stands Guard

Paul was showing us that “peace” is an actual guard over our hearts and minds. The word Paul uses in this verse paints a picture of a Roman soldier who stands guard at a gate only letting in and out who he wants. So, we have the authority, in Christ, to only let into our hearts and minds the thoughts and emotions that agree with the Word of God and produce peace and joy.

Do You Want To Live Worry Free?

Remind yourself that He’s able, willing, and wanting to handle it when you give it to Him. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you. Those who live a worry-free life are those who keep casting their burdens on the Lord until it becomes as natural to them as breathing! So what are you waiting for?
